The Ashville High School Alumni

Pictures Project

Mission / Purpose / Vision

MISSION

The Mission of the Ashville High School Alumni Pictures Project is to digitally photograph the available framed Ashville High School alumni pictures residing in the Ashville Area Heritage Society’s museum, also known as Ohio's Small-Town Museum in Ashville, Ohio.  The goal of the project is to make available to the public online digital images of not only the framed group class alumni pictures, but also individual close-ups of each person in the class, including the school staff when available.  Images will be searchable by name and also by searching visually using the ability to click on an individual to enlarge it.  Our projected time frame for completion of the project will be approximately one and one-half to two years, depending on the community volunteers available.

PURPOSE

The main purpose of the project is to digitally preserve the images of the Ashville High School Alumni not only for genealogical purposes, but to make the images available free to the public online.  Images will also be available on Compact Disc (CD) or by ordering a printed copy of the photograph.

A secondary purpose of the project is to add a source of income to the Ashville Area Heritage Society, of which the proceeds are to be used in the museum's general maintenance and operational expenses that will help it continue the work of preserving and documenting the village's heritage and its memories.

VISION.

The vision is to not only complete these pictures and having them available to the public, but upon completion of the project and upon reflecting on the projects successes and difficulties, to use it as an example and guide toward expanding the project to encompass the Teays Valley School District Alumni and any and all Ashville Area school photos available.

As an example, the beginning of the project can be located online at the following URL or address:

Brian Miller, AKA Swiv, is seen here photographing one of the Ashville High School Alumni Pictures.  Notice he is getting a close up shot that will produce individual student photos that online visitors will be able to view, print or or order photos from the Ashville museum.  He has quite a project and a lot of hours of work ahead of him.  We hope that if all goes well, the project might be finished in about a year and a half.  He is a dedicated volunteer and his expertise is of great value to the museum... he is paid well....as much as the highest paid person in the museum... he volunteers for free.

We are always looking for volunteers to help with projects and to help keep up and maintain the museum.  If there is something you are specially trained in or would simply like to help out sweeping and cleaning or organizing, please come on over to Ohio's Small-Town Museum and talk to us.
